Donal Courtney - Actor
Treading the boards for more than fourteen years, Donal has garnered applause in virtually every corner of Ireland, across the mainland of Europe and in Australia in a play of his own authorship, Closing Time, in 1998. A native of Kerry, Donal began his formal training at the Gaiety School of Acting in 1990 and later attended the Exiles International Theatre Programme of Ulster for direction.
Earning a diploma in Stage Combat from the British Academy of Dramatic Combat, Donal has also directed half a dozen plays and is a tutor at the Gaiety School of Acting, Dublin. He has written two aditional pieces, Rumplestiltskin, which ran at the Granary Theatre, Cork and Election Night which premiered in Dublin in 2003.
Of the over three dozen roles Donal has assumed in his career some of his favourites include Eamo in Homefront, Friar Lawrence in Romeo and Juliet and the Chorus Leader in Antigone which opened at the Ancient Stadium, in Delphi, Greece and went on to play the Roman Amphitheater, Carnuntum in 2000.
Donal’s film and television credits also include the productions Booth and Heratlines and a role in Veronica Guerin.
In Love's Delusion, Donal took on the role of Tolstoy's Pózdnyshev.
